Blue Smokey Eye

This is the first eye look on the blog!!! I am very excited about it. I wasn't planning to post anything like this just yet, but I have been taking pictures of my eye looks in anticipation of posting some of them at some point. Really specific, I know. So here we go.

Let's not consider this a tutorial or a how-to at all. I'm not sure yet how I want to handle showing how I do my eye makeup, so for now, let's just look at some pictures :)

It was a pretty fun day. And I did not match my fleece to it on purpose. For this look, I used e.l.f.'s Studio 80 Piece Day-to-Night Eyeshadow Palette. I was skeptical of this product at first, but with a primer, most of the colors are actually pretty great. I'll do a full review at some point, but if you want to try it out for yourself, you can get it here. My skin is looking more red in the pictures than I would like it to, but the point is the eyes, so we'll be ok.

Manicure Monday! Rose Gold Glam.

So hey.

I took a bit of a hiatus from all of the responsibilities to spend time with my family, my dog, my friends, and my HuluPlus subscription. Also, many bubble baths happened. But I really did miss blogging, and I am excited to share this manicure with you!

This is another one from the summer, and since it is FINALLY starting to get a little warmer, I am going to suck all the vicarious living I can out of this little bugger.

Here it is.

To get this look, I used:

Bonder Base Coat

2 coats of Revlon's "Copper Penny" Nail Lacquer (you could definitely get away with one)

1 coat of Sally Hansen's Hard As Nails Polish in "Strobe Light" (you might need two, mine was a little old and, thus, a little thicker)

And Orly's Won't Chip Top Coat

I really thought that this was going to chip super quickly since I used two coats of "Copper Penny" when I didn't really need to and an older glitter polish. But it still lasted a good week for me, so I was pretty happy with the Orly products once again, since I attribute a lot of my manicures' staying power to those two little gems. 

Since glitter can be so darn difficult to photograph, I tried to get a closeup for you. This doesn't quite do the polishes justice, but hopefully you can still get an idea of what it was like.

Not Your Mother's Beach Babe Texturizing Spray: A Review.

Here is what I think of Not Your Mother's Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray.

I got this image from www.ulta.com. I do not own it. You can get this spray at several stores or online. I picked mine up at Wal-Mart for just around $5.

The first time I used it, I used a moderate amount throughout my wet hair and then "scrunched" all my curls with my hands. I was a little indifferent to how it affected my hair. It did tone down the frizz, but it did not eliminate it, and my curls were a bit looser and messier. Originally, I thought that I should have used a little more, but, well, you'll see. 

The second time, I added some Suave Leave In Conditioner Spray and some Treseme Hairspray. I wanted more shine and a little more control than I was getting with just the Beach Babe spray. I found that my curls just weren't as nice with only this texturizing spray. I am not super thrilled with the above combination, because the point of trying the Beach Babe spray was to see if it could be a stand alone product for me. 

On the other hand, my friend Krista absolutely loves it. Her hair is a bit thicker and longer than mine, and she has looser waves as opposed to my curls. She tried it in wet hair the first time, just sprayed and "scrunched" a little, and she was super happy with the result once it dried. She doesn't feel like she has any product in her hair, and that is important to her. She used it on both wet and dry hair, and said it is the best product she has found yet, though on dry hair, she says you should be careful with the amount you use. Spraying a lot in will give a little bit of a sticky feel, as she calls it, to her hair. 

Here is Krista's hair. She used the spray in it today. This is the type of hair I would recommend this product for.

When I applied this to my dry hair, I didn't love the texture it left, just on a preference level, but it did give it that sort of rougher feeling that can be helpful when doing updos. Usually we don't want super silky hair when we try to work with it and get in fancy buns and such, so this spray would be helpful for pulling off that french twist or poofy pony tail. Just be aware, you will probably be wanting some shine spray; the Beach Babe spray can make your hair a bit dull. And you will also want to wash your hands when you're done, since they are going to feel a little coated.

It smells like coconut water, in case you were wondering.

Overall, Not Your Mother's Beach Babe Texturizing Spray is easy to use, light when in the hair, and works great for people with softer waves. It's also helpful for adding texture to the hair when doing-it-up, but I wouldn't recommend it for those with very curly or frizzy hair. It feels best when applied to wet hair, but if you don't mind the feeling of product in your hair, you shouldn't have a problem using it in dry hair as well.
